Outrek Pad 31st October 2010 - Jeep Club Outing

Outrek Pad 31st October 2010 - Jeep Club Outing

It was a beautiful Sunday morning as all 26 Jeeps arrived for a fun filled day at the farm Ourek Pad managed by the two Stoffberg brothers, Sakkie and Nico.

All participants met at the Lapa, where tyres were deflated and Nico gave a brief history of the farm.

We broke the members into three groups and set off on the route.

It wasn’t long before one of the Grand Cherokee's had reversed down a hill and driven off the track. With the assistance of Arrie - Team Jeep we quickly had it back on the route and over the obstacle. This was the wakeup call for all the followers, who then ensured they has the correct 4wheel drive and gear selection for their vehicle.

The sandy twists and turns kept all the drivers focused until we were in the open and could break for a quick refreshment.

Over the radios we could hear that the other Team Jeep members were playing in the river opposite the Lapa with a lot of them finding the water and mud holding them back and recoveries needed. Photos to follow.

Reagan was leading the Wrangler group and missed the route and jumped ahead, only to find himself pinned down on an embankment while doing a slow river crossing. An over enthusiastic wrangler driver rushed into the other side of the river to assist and got themselves well and truly stuck in the mud. This became a spectators delight and all grabbed their cameras to record the what followed.

Arrie – Team Jeep recovered Reagan from the river crossing without incident. Then he tried to cross and after the third attempt the same embankment now had his Commander well and truly bogged down. Fortunately the remaining Team Jeep drivers arrived and removed the two vehicles from the river.

The Team Jeep drivers then attempted to cross the river crossing creating a great photo opportunity. Finally Maurice with Vaughn floated his two doors wrangler across the river crossing tow the crowds delight.

All the drivers then slowly drove back to the Lapa where the fires where lit and all enjoyed a very casual Braai. Oh sorry not all- Arrie from team Jeep went to play in the river opposite the Lapa and also got himself horribly stuck. I think three vehicles eventually rescued him from spending the night at Outrek Pad.

A great day was had by all those who took part.
