Tierkloof 4x4 Day outing - 28 November 2010
Tierkloof 4x4 Day outing 28 November 2010
18 Jeeps mainly Wranglers joined us at Tierkloof 4x4 route outside Rawsonville for a day of challenging rocky sections. 11 Jeep vehicles met at the Engen One Stop on the N1 and departed in convoy to Tierkloof. The remainder were waiting as we arrived at 9.30am
We all met at the campsite at 9.30am and completed the necessary indemnity forms and lowered tyres accordingly.
Vaughn offered to lead the group with Neil riding in the rear to assist where needed. The route for those who don’t know it starts off with a rocky ascent which is not for the faint hearted, with some technical turns included. All made it up with very little effort.
The views as we ascended up the mountain were spectacular; we arrived at the summit and took a thirty minute break for refreshments and photos.
On the rocky descent we all travelled slowly ensuring not to catch our diff on the very loose and rocky down. Safely down we entered the sand section where all took their chance to conquer the sandy hill climb. For those doing it for the first time it was a definite adrenalin rush.
We all made our way back to the camp site where we built fires and settled in for a leisurely braai.
Those that attended were able to complete: Evidence Collection Logbook for US 254135, which will become the norm at all future Jeep Club outings. This log book is then retained for when each driver completes his Basic 4x4 training according to the Unit Standard 254135.
The training will be offered in 2011 from January onwards so watch out for the announcements on the jeep website.
